Tortuguero

Last night Christine had a little disaster. After being spooked by a three inch katydid in the kitchen, then when a moth landed on her shoulder, she was just entering the cabin when a leaf descended. Startled and thinking it was an insect, she instinctively stepped forwards and bashed her shin on the concrete step. It was only a bit like the screaming scene in Indiana Jones but Christine hasn't seen the funny side yet.

We went over to Tortuguero village today. Here are photos especially for Em and Zoe : grandad eating icecream and grandma on the beach.

After walking on the Caribbean shore and a leisurely lunch, we returned to the lodge where Auricaria were feeding and the sloth had been galvanised into torpid activity.

I caught sight of the guy next door going off fishing with his pet tiger heron riding in the bow of his boat.

Then we borrowed Jeff's canoe and set off to explore the riverbank. We annoyed a few herons, but saw nothing more threatening than a half submerged log.

As I write this, we have just been outside to watch spider monkeys swinging through the trees, but now it is dark.
